About Cedrus Counseling
Why Cedrus
The name Cedrus, Latin for cedar, carries the strength, resilience, and interconnectedness at the heart of the practice.

Roots in place
Strength, resilience, connection.
The noble cedar is known for deep, stable roots that let it withstand storms and stand tall for centuries. This mirrors our own ability to find inner strength and stability, even when facing life’s greatest challenges.
Like the intertwining roots of a cedar grove, we are all part of a larger network. We heal in connection with others, and in our sessions you will find a supportive space to share your burdens and feel seen, heard, and understood.
Land and lineage
The cedar is profoundly significant to many First Nations cultures, where it is revered as the Tree of Life. That reverence for the cedar’s protective and restorative qualities inspires our work.
We would like to acknowledge that we are on the traditional land of the sdukʷalbixʷ (Snoqualmie) and dxʷlilap (Tulalip) People. We honor with gratitude the land itself along with the Snoqualmie and Tulalip People, past, present, and future.
Meet Dr. Ranasinghe
From corporate life to clinical work.
Dr. Priyal Ranasinghe is a licensed clinical psychologist whose background and lived experience deeply inform his practice. He began in the corporate world, gaining firsthand insight into high-stress environments and burnout, before a career change led him to his calling in psychology. His work in mental health began in 2013 in the U.S. Army, supporting soldiers through psychological distress, and continued at VA hospitals and domestic violence intervention programs, deepening his expertise in trauma.
His own experience as an immigrant grounds a specialized focus on immigrant communities, and his later-in-life ADHD diagnosis informs a strengths-based approach to neurodiversity. He earned his doctorate in clinical psychology, works as an adjunct professor, and remains devoted to research in trauma and multicultural care. Outside the office, he finds joy in travel, time outdoors with his wife, and tending his many farm animals.

Where we meet
Our Bellevue office.
Most of the work here happens by telehealth, across the PSYPACT network in more than 40 states, so where you live is rarely the deciding factor. The Bellevue office is here for in-person time when it fits, though that availability is limited and worked out during consultation.
How we work
Authenticity
We help clients shed societal expectations and past wounds to connect with their true selves and build a life of genuine purpose.
Growth
We help clients move from distress to personal evolution, seeing challenges as openings for meaningful change.
Cultural Sensitivity
Culturally informed care that recognizes and honors the unique experiences and identities of every client.
Compassion
An empathic, non-judgmental space where every client feels seen, heard, and valued, whatever they bring.
Interconnectedness
Healing happens in relationship. We foster a collaborative space to connect with yourself and with others.
Resilience
The belief that you can find inner strength and withstand life’s storms, just as the noble cedar endures.
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
Carl Jung
